Built-in kitchen appliances – what you need to know before choosing

PC Piotr Chojnowski · carpenter and owner of Meble Chojnowski · bespoke kitchens in Warsaw

Most customers choose their appliances at the very end — after the kitchen quotation — because there happened to be a promotion at a chain store. Two years later, the dishwasher turns out to be too loud, the extractor hood is ineffective, the oven breaks down a week after the warranty expires, or the service centre refuses a repair because the appliance was installed contrary to the manufacturer’s instructions. Each of these mistakes can cost from a few hundred to several thousand PLN, and all of them can be avoided. As a bespoke kitchen contractor in Warsaw, I explain how to choose built-in appliances wisely and how much you can realistically save by buying the appliances together with the furniture.

Built-in appliances in a modern bespoke kitchen

Why built-in appliances are the standard today

Freestanding appliances have their advantages — they are cheaper to buy and easier to replace. But in a bespoke kitchen, built-in appliances are almost always the preferred choice, and there are specific reasons for that:

  • Consistent aesthetics – appliance fronts blend with the rest of the cabinetry, so nothing looks visually out of place
  • Better use of space – built-in cabinetry allows the units to be matched precisely to the appliances
  • Ergonomics – an oven at eye level, a built-in microwave and a coffee machine alongside it — appliances can be positioned to make cooking more convenient
  • Property value – a complete fitted kitchen can increase the property’s value when it is resold

What to look out for when choosing appliances

1. Appliances should not be chosen at the end

This is the most common mistake. The customer orders the kitchen and buys the appliances two weeks before installation because a promotion happened to come up. Then it turns out that the oven is 60 cm deep instead of the expected 56 cm, or the induction hob requires a different worktop cut-out from the one planned.

For us, appliances are part of the design from the very first conversation. This ensures that dimensions, services and ventilation all work together.

2. Specifications that really matter

In a shop, price and appearance often come first. In a kitchen, other factors matter more:

  • Noise level – a 39 dB dishwasher is very different from a 47 dB model in an open-plan kitchen and living room
  • Extractor hood performance – m³/h is not everything; filtration efficiency and whether the hood is ducted outside or works in recirculation mode also matter
  • Energy rating – the difference between an A and C energy rating can translate into real annual running costs
  • Service availability – an unfamiliar brand with an attractive price may become a problem four years later

3. Consistency of brands and finishes

Mixing manufacturers is not a mistake, but it does require attention. Different shades of black, different handles and different display typography become noticeable when appliances sit next to one another. That is why we usually recommend keeping the whole kitchen to one or two brands.

What you gain by buying appliances together with the kitchen from us

Practical benefits that, for most customers, make a comprehensive package worthwhile:

Promotions when buying a set

Appliance manufacturers offer promotional packages for customers ordering a kitchen. The most popular offer is the fifth appliance for PLN 1 when buying a set of four appliances from the same brand.

This is a real saving: depending on the brand and selected set, the saving is from PLN 2,000 to PLN 6,000 compared with buying the same models individually. Promotional packages change regularly, so it is worth asking for the current options when requesting a quotation.

5-year warranty included

At most appliance chains, an extended warranty costs extra — usually 5–10% of the appliance value, which for a PLN 12,000 set means an additional PLN 600–1,200With us, you receive a 5-year warranty at no extra cost.

For a dishwasher or oven that fails between the third and fifth year of use, this can be the difference between a repair covered by the manufacturer and paying for a new appliance yourself — with a new dishwasher starting at around PLN 2,500.

Free appliance installation

If you buy the appliances together with the furniture, installation is included. There is no need to find a separate team or coordinate who will connect the induction hob, fridge or extractor hood. External companies may charge PLN 800–1,500.

We connect everything in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements and document the installation, which is important if a warranty claim is ever needed.

From experience For customers who already own appliances from a previous home, we always suggest comparing the real value of the used appliances with the price of a new package that includes a 5-year warranty and free installation. In most cases, the overall cost is similar, but in return you receive new appliances with a consistent look and installation carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements.

Appliance brands available from us

We work with manufacturers across different price ranges — from sensible entry-level options, through mid-range appliances, to premium brands. This allows us to match a set to the actual budget rather than simply choosing whatever happens to be available.

Kernau Siemens Samsung Amica Whirlpool Solgaz Bosch Dunavox Gorenje Beko LG Smeg Elica Ciarko Design Faber Dynacook Franke Pyramis Hisense Philipiak Aquaphor

What is worth knowing when choosing a brand:

  • Samsung – very good value for money, modern technology and excellent service availability. We often recommend it as a first option for customers who want upper-mid-range appliances without paying extra for the badge
  • Bosch, Siemens – proven German standards and long service life. A good choice for people who value classic solutions and long-term reliability
  • Smeg – a good option if the kitchen is intended to be a showpiece and design is a priority
  • Amica, Beko, Whirlpool, Hisense – sensible prices and solid mid-range quality. A good choice for a smaller budget
  • Elica, Faber, Ciarko Design – suitable when the extractor hood is intended to be a decorative feature as well as a functional one
  • Dunavox – wine coolers, if there is space for a dedicated cabinet
  • Solgaz, Philipiak – less conventional solutions, such as gas burners under glass and high-end induction, for more demanding users
  • Aquaphor – water filtration systems, increasingly ordered together with the kitchen

There is no single “best” brand — it all depends on the budget, cooking habits and how long you plan to use the appliances. When preparing a quotation, we help select specific models to suit your needs.

Realistic appliance budgets for a bespoke kitchen

The question “how much do kitchen appliances cost?” comes up with almost every quotation. Below are three realistic budget levels from our experience for a full set: oven, hob, extractor hood, dishwasher and fridge:

Budget

PLN 8,000–12,000

Brands: Amica, Beko, Hisense, Whirlpool

  • Solid entry-level appliances
  • Suitable for customers who cook occasionally
  • Standard specifications and simple design

Mid-range

PLN 13,000–20,000

Brands: Samsung, Bosch, Siemens and higher-end Whirlpool ranges

  • The most commonly chosen price range
  • Good energy efficiency and noise performance
  • Appliances designed for 10+ years of use without major compromises

Premium

PLN 25,000–50,000+

Brands: Smeg, Miele, Gaggenau, Philipiak

  • Top-tier build quality and design
  • Premium functions such as probes, steam and AI
  • Appliances intended for 15+ years of use with premium positioning

These amounts cover the appliances only, without furniture or installation. With a set from our offer, you also receive the promotional package, a saving of PLN 2,000–6,000, a 5-year warranty included in the price and free installation. The customer’s real net cost is therefore PLN 3,000–7,000 lower than at large retail chains.

From experience The most common budget we see for 8–12 m² kitchen projects in Warsaw is up to PLN 15,000 for a complete appliance set. Customers who initially aim for the cheapest possible option often move closer to the upper end of that range after comparing noise levels, specifications and design — and are satisfied with that decision.

Buy appliances separately or together with the kitchen? A direct comparison

Customers usually have two options: buy the appliances from us as a package, or purchase them independently from a chain store or online retailer. Here is how the two approaches compare:

What we are comparing Chain store / online retailer Package with the kitchen from us
Set price List price / retailer promotion PLN 2,000–6,000 cheaper (package + fifth appliance for PLN 1)
Warranty 2 years; extension to 5 years = +PLN 600–1,200 5 years included
Installation We can install customer-supplied appliances — PLN 250 per item PLN 0 – included
Fit with the design We prepare the design anyway, so the dimensions will be correct Appliances included in the furniture design from the start
Point of contact for warranty claims Retailer ↔ manufacturer (the customer handles it) One point of contact — us
Delivery time Fast, but delivered independently of the furniture, so you have to coordinate the timing yourself 3–5 working days, coordinated with kitchen installation

Even if you buy the appliances yourself, we can still install them while fitting the kitchen at PLN 250 per item. The difference is that you then lose the package promotion, the 5-year warranty included in the price and coordinated delivery. With a complete set, the difference between buying separately and taking the package is usually PLN 3,000–7,000 in favour of the package option.

Why it is worth buying appliances together with the furniture

In most cases, buying appliances separately from a chain store while we are building your bespoke kitchen simply costs more overall. The reason is not about pushing a particular sale — it is that the package offers savings and coordination that an individual purchase does not provide.

  • One point of responsibility – if something goes wrong, there is no passing responsibility between the appliance shop, installation team and furniture contractor
  • Design consistency – dimensions, colours and style are all planned together from the first conversation
  • Reduced risk of installation errors – appliances are connected in line with the manufacturer’s requirements, with documentation available if a claim is needed
  • Package promotions – the fifth appliance for PLN 1, a 5-year warranty and free installation — benefits not normally available when buying separately
  • Time saving – one order, one delivery, one installation and one point of contact
  • Real saving – PLN 3,000–7,000 compared with buying independently
From experience One customer bought a fridge independently from a chain store. After three years it stopped cooling. A technician charged PLN 300 just for the diagnosis, paid in advance before opening the appliance. Ten minutes later the verdict was that refrigerant could be topped up, but the fault would likely return, so replacement made more sense. The customer paid PLN 300 for a brief diagnosis and still had to replace the fridge, despite believing it was still under warranty. With a package purchase, the 5-year warranty covers situations like this without an additional diagnostic fee.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Can I buy the appliances from you but have the furniture made by someone else?

Yes. You can still benefit from competitive pricing, the “fifth appliance for PLN 1” promotion and a 5-year warranty. Installation is not included in this case — if another company is making the furniture, appliance connection remains their responsibility.

What if I already own some appliances and want to reuse them?

That is possible — we can design around existing appliances if their dimensions and age allow it. Installation of customer-supplied appliances purchased outside our offer costs PLN 250 per item. We usually compare the numbers with the customer to see whether buying a promotional package is more cost-effective than integrating older appliances into a new kitchen. In most cases, the new package works out better overall.

I have an older flat with only one ventilation outlet — what type of extractor hood should I install?

This is a common issue in older buildings. To connect a ducted extractor hood to ventilation correctly, you need two separate ventilation ducts — one for the room’s natural ventilation and another for the extractor hood. If there is only one outlet, as is common in older blocks, the extractor hood must not be connected to the same outlet — regulations prohibit this because it interferes with ventilation throughout the flat.

In that situation, the compliant solution is a recirculating extractor hood with a carbon filter: it absorbs odours and grease, while filtered air returns to the room, for example through a grille in the enclosure above the cabinets. We recommend a specific model during the kitchen design stage depending on the room layout.

Does the 5-year warranty apply to all appliances?

Yes. The 5-year warranty applies to appliances bought from us as part of a package. At large appliance retailers, an extended warranty is usually an additional paid option; with us, it is included in the price.

What does free installation include?

As standard: positioning, levelling, connection to existing services such as water, electricity and ventilation, commissioning and an initial test. It does not include alterations to existing services, which require a separate quotation.

How long does appliance delivery take?

Usually 3–5 working days. We plan delivery together with the kitchen installation schedule so that the appliances arrive exactly when they are needed for fitting.

Do you supply built-in appliances outside Warsaw?

Our main service area is Warsaw and the surrounding part of Mazovia, including Pruszków, Piaseczno, Legionowo, Marki, Józefów and Konstancin. Projects in other Polish cities are possible subject to an individual quotation for travel and installation costs.

Before requesting an appliance quotation, it is worth deciding:

  • Which appliances you want in the kitchen, such as a dishwasher, oven, microwave or built-in coffee machine
  • Whether the fridge should be integrated or a freestanding side-by-side model
  • Induction or gas hob, as this affects the required services
  • A ducted extractor hood or a recirculating hood with a carbon filter
  • Whether you need any specialist appliances, such as a wine cooler or built-in coffee machine
  • An approximate budget for the appliances alone, excluding furniture
